New Doubles

This appears in Tintinnalogia (1668), Campanalogia (1677) and Campanalogia Improved (5th Edition) (Monk, 1766). The method is still called New Bob Doubles, but the usual call nowadays is has place notation 145. Here a Grandsire Single (place notation 123) is used as the call; this gives the variation named Hendred (73c). The touch shown is PPPS PPPS PPPS, with the 2nd unaffected (or "half hunt").

In Clavis Campanalogia (Jones, Reeve & Blakemore, 1788) and The Art of Ringing (Thackrah, 1852), the method is the same, but the extent is obtained with 4ths-place bobs, as are usually used in New Bob today (73r). The touch given in The Art of Ringing is PPPB PPPB PPPB, having the 5th unaffected at each call.
